The University of Melbourne is inviting members of the public to recreate Melbourne’s architectural icons in cake form.
The competition is open to aspiring practitioners, professionals and general public with a category for University of Melbourne students.
The cakes will be displayed at the university’s open day on 18 August and will be judged by a panel of “leading names in the food, architecture and design industries.”
A total prize pool of $4,000 is on offer. The first place winner will receive $1,500, second place will receive $700 and third place will received $300. The winner of the student category will receive $1,000 and a people’s choice winner will receive $500.

The baking competition a part of year-long celebrations to mark 150 years of built environment education at the university in 2019.
Other events and activities have included Smoke and Mirrors, an exhibition of digital fabrication and model making inspired by the Harry Potter books and film, the Future Park Design Ideas Competition in partnership with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, and an iconographic series of wearable art, created by Studio Binocular, inspired by Melbourne’s notable buildings.
